Since 1978, LaBella Associates, P.C. has helped clients achieve successes through specialized architectural, engineering environmental consulting and planning services. Headquartered in Rochester, NY with offices in Buffalo, Hornell and Coudersport, PA, LaBella currently employs 150 professionals and has been named a Rochester Top 100 firm. LaBella currently employs over 150 personnel, including 16 licensed architects. We believe in maintaining principal involvement and are committed to providing principal’s time throughout the course of a project. Our time will be focused on ensuring that the client’s expectations are being met; that design concepts are being responsive to the project budget as well as the program; and that each design discipline has the resources available to successfully address the project schedule.

LaBella Associates has been assisting municipalities for over 25 years. Utilizing an integrated team approach, we are able to offer a broad range of professional architectural and engineering services in-house to towns, villages, cities, and counties. LaBella Associates assists municipalities with a variety of infrastructure needs including water, wastewater, storm water management, utility design, and planning.

LaBella Associates’ staff is highly experienced in delivering outstanding service to our municipal clients. We work with local, state, and federal governments and agencies to offer a full range of GIS services to our clients.
Our Environmental GIS program offers a specialized set of applications and processes for assessing, monitoring and managing the natural elements of our environment. In addition, our GPS Mapping Program allows us to quickly and accurately record large amounts of field data electronically, eliminating the need and error factor of converting field notes to electronic files.

- Older buildings scheduled for renovation or demolition often require removal of a variety of hazardous materials prior to re-construction or demolition. Our personnel have extensive site investigation and abatement design experience. Our management skills aid our clients in managing hazardous materials problems professionally and economically.

LaBella Associates’ health and safety team, under the direction of a Certified Industrial Hygienist, are routinely providing air sampling and compliance assessment services across upstate New York. Clients include:Industry, Schools & Colleges, Municipalities, Insurance Companies, Attorneys etc.
Studies can be performed in response to specific exposure concerns about a chemical or process, or as part of a comprehensive occupational health and safety program. Our CIH has extensive experience with Indoor Air Quality investigations, including mold contamination investigations and assessments. Our experienced staff uses the latest techniques and instrumentation to perform exposure studies and hazard assessments.
LaBella provides comprehensive and complete safety consulting services, from specific OSHA compliance programs to on-site training. We can help you set up and implement a Safety Management Program, review specific components or conduct an assessment of current policies and practices to identify deficiencies or areas of weakness. The objective is to provide proactive, practical and cost efficient solutions to all your safety compliance needs. LaBella Associates has a wide breadth of experience providing State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) services to industrial, institutional, municipal and agency clients across New York. We have accomplished great successes with both small and large projects for a variety of clients over the last 15 years. Some projects have been very large, complex and controversial requiring coordination between multiple agencies, complex impact studies, and very involved public participation programs.

LaBella has provided survey, transportation design and construction inspection services for over 20 years. Most notably, our team members have extensive experience in bridge replacements, highway design, environmental issues, hydraulics, SHPO coordination, and public participation.

LaBella has been planning and designing street, highway, bridge, and other transportation projects for over 25 years for city, county, and State clients. As a full-service transportation firm, our engineers possess the depth and experience to handle design elements typically encountered on these projects, including concrete and asphalt pavement design, retaining walls, culverts, utilities, landscape amenities & streetscape, traffic signals, guiderailing, lighting, drainage, pavement markings and signs, permitting, environmental analysis & remediation.
Helping Clients Achieve Sustainable Design
Sustainable or Green Design makes a positive impact on public health, improves occupant well-being, and makes buildings more efficient by reducing operating costs. At LaBella Associates, our focus is on finding “net zero solutions” for clients---net zero environmental disturbance, net zero waste production and net zero energy usage. Our design philosophy is aligned with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC).
Our LEED Accredited Professionals can assist and manage the efforts of registration, verification, quantification and documentation involved in a LEED certified project.
Experience with Energy Efficient/Environmentally Friendly Buildings
LaBella Associates has experience in the design and planning for Certified Green Buildings. The firm currently employs 13 LEED accredited professionals.
LaBella Associates’ management has an initiative to have at least one person in each functional discipline to be LEED certified by the end of the year. We recently completed a LEED Certified Building project with the City of Rochester for a new Water Bureau Operations Center. Working sessions were held with the Owner’s representatives and the design team in an effort to identify credits towards LEED certification for the project. Enough credits were identified for a Gold Level Certification rating. Tasks were assigned to appropriate personnel for further investigation.
We can apply these same techniques to the benefit of other groups wanting to evaluate Green Building certification.
LaBella’s multidisciplinary design teams have expertise in all facets of Green Building credit analysis. Our in-house certified industrial hygienist can pride analysis of indoor environmental air quality. Our Mechanical Engineering staff is experienced in modeling the energy patterns of new and reconstructed buildings and making recommendations for system equipment selections. LaBella’s Electrical Engineers can analyze the building’s interior and exterior lighting systems, including daylighting, to take advantage of LEED credits offered in those categories.
Our site and environmental engineers have experience in site selection, the use of permeable surfaces, brownfield remediation technologies and construction debris and soil recycling plans. Finally, our architectural staff has expertise in construction materials and finishes and adhesives that meet VOC thresholds using recycled and reclaimed materials.
