Internship Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a job shadow and an internship?
A job shadow is when student(s) come into the office and spends the day meeting with employees in the student’s field(s) of interest (Ex: Architecture employees, Mechanical Engineer employees, Civil Engineer employees, etc.) Job shadows are normally for students in high school or in the early years of college, who have interest in architecture/engineering. Students who job shadow at LaBella learn about future opportunities within the field, what a typical day would be like, and how each of our divisions collaborates with one another. If you’d like to schedule a job shadow opportunity, contact Marissa Roach. MRoach@LaBellaPC.com.
A LaBella internship is typically for students who are entering their Junior or Senior year of College. As an intern, you will work with managers and other employees on projects and gain real world experience. If you’re interested in an internship with LaBella, please apply below.
What are the requirements for an internship?
The student should be enrolled in a college/university and majoring in a field in which we provide services in. Internship requirements vary between service divisions. While there’s no exact template for success at LaBella, our people share some qualities that help make us successful – and that make working here fun.
Personal Impact – we look for people who can develop and implement creative solutions to challenging problems and work well with teams to do it.
Problem Solving Skills – Helping clients and co-workers solve tough problems and implement solutions requires strong intellectual abilities and rigor as well as practical sense of what works and what does not.
Leadership Abilities – We seek people who strive to lead themselves, their teams, and their communities, and who can foster effective teamwork to drive results.
Does LaBella accept interns for Co-Ops year round?
Yes, if the workload allows it! The timing of your internship is flexible. We will mutually agree on a suitable start date with those candidates who receive an offer to join.
What is the application process?
Apply through the link below. HR will receive your application and send to the appropriate manager. If the manager is interested, HR will follow up with you to schedule an interview.
I applied for an internship. How can I follow up on the status of my application?
You can follow up on the status of your application by emailing Human Resources, HR@LaBellaPC.com.
How many interns do you hire?
The number of interns hired for a given year are approximately 10-20, depending on the needs of LaBella’s managers. We warmly encourage all interested students to apply.
Will I be notified if I am not selected?
We do not send out any notice if you have not been selected. Unfortunately, given that we typically receive a high volume of applications each year, we are only able to acknowledge that your application has been received. If you have applied on-line, this acknowledgment is sent to you as soon as your application is successfully transmitted.
Do you conduct interviews before accepting applicants into the program?
Yes. We contact select candidates to set up an interview, which may be conducted either in person or over the telephone, depending on your proximity to a LaBella office. We interview all of the candidates who will be accepted into the Internship Program.
About the Program
Will I be paid?
Yes, all interns will be paid at an hourly rate.
Can I receive college credit?
It may be possible to receive college credit for your internship at LaBella. Check with your academic department for confirmation and further direction – we are happy to complete any forms necessary for you to get college credit!
What will I actually do?
Internships vary between divisions, but generally, you will do real work with responsibilities such as drafting and visiting job sites. Our experienced staff will guide and coach you just as they would if you joined us on a permanent basis.
As well as finding out how we work, you will also get to know who we are, from the manager who oversees your progress to the employees who work alongside you, to the “buddy” who acts as your informal coach and supporter. If you complete the internship program successfully, you may be offered a permanent role with us.
What does the Expedition: Internship Summer Program entail?
In 2018, we expanded and enhanced our summer intern program: Expedition: Internship! Expedition: Internship allows young scholars to start their career journeys with us. We start off the summer with a “Past Interns Panel.” The panelists are past LaBella interns who continued their career at LaBella after graduation. Interns have the chance to learn about the panelist’s career paths, challenges they’ve faced transitioning from the classroom to the office, and what they love about working at LaBella. Half way through our summer program, we challenged our interns and executives to a fun activity. Before everyone prepared to transition back to school, we ended the summer program with an “Executives Panel.” Similar to the Past Interns panel, our leadership team (President Bob Healy, CEO Sergio Esteban, and CFO Rob Pepe) shared their professional stories and answered intern questions.
