"Groundbreaking" Ceremony for MCC Downtown Campus

Hardhats and Spackling Knives

On Tuesday, October 20, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to celebrate the start of Phase 2 of construction for the new MCC Downtown Campus. County Executive Maggie Brooks, Deputy Mayor Len Redon and MCC President Dr. Anne Kress spoke at the ceremony, each discussing the road to today's celebration and the exciting realities the new campus will bring. Notice to proceed will be given to contractors in November, and the campus will be ready for the Fall 2017 semester.

While the Kodak building will undergo a dramatic transformation, no new ground has been broken, and demolition already occurred as part of Phase I's utility seperation and hazardous material abatement. Calling on MCC's commitment to innovation, County Executive Maggie Brooks invited project stakeholders to ceremoniously spackle a new wall.

LaBella's spackling team included (L to R) Liz Kirchoff, Troy Williams, Jerry DeRomanis, Bob Healy, and Chris Gangemi.

The Democrat and Chronicle covered the event, as did YNN and the Daily Record.
