LaBella Wins Outstanding Facility Design & Construction Award for Rush Henrietta Central School
LaBella’s Sperry High School Gym Addition for the Rush Henrietta Central School District was honored for Outstanding Facility Design & Construction at an awards ceremony on June 2nd. The Henrietta Chamber of Commerce honored the project at their 30th Annual Community of Excellence Awards Celebration.
The Rush-Henrietta Central School District’s Phase III facility renovations project, which was completed in 2015, was the culmination of more than 15 years of long-term planning that featured three phases of improvements made to district buildings and grounds.
Phase III renovations, which were made to the Rush-Henrietta Senior High School campus, were approved by the community in 2011. The project included revamping Elmer Gordon Stadium and the adjacent athletic fields at the high school. A new, dual-purpose field with vastly improved drainage that is suitable for both the football and lacrosse teams was installed, as was a new press box and bathroom facilities. New soccer fields were built behind the Senior High School and a new field was constructed for junior varsity softball.
In addition, the Phase III project included construction of an expanded, state-of-the-art gymnasium. The new gym provides nearly twice the seating capacity as its predecessor, offering enough seating for all students enrolled in grades 9-12. In addition, the physical education department is now able to provide additional learning stations during classes, which provides a better experience for students. The old gym was transformed into usable space and features a new fitness center, team locker rooms, a wrestling room, a team room, and more. A second floor was constructed and is home to a new counseling center, conference room and office space.
To support academic achievement, the district created new, state-of-the-art science and technology classrooms that will serve students well for decades.
LaBella provided architectural and engineering services, as well as assisted in overseeing construction. Many sectional athletic events are now hosted in the new facilities because of the quality of the facility and amenities provided.
