Groundbreaking Ceremony for Western Piedmont Community College's Mechatronics Building

LaBella was proud to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Mechatronics Building at the Western Piedmont Community College main campus in Morganton, North Carolina. The President for WPCC, Dr. Michael Helmick, welcomed everyone to the event and Bruce Hawkins, Sr. (Chair of the Trustees of WPCC), Randy Burns (Chair of the Burke County Board of Education) and Dan Gerlach (Golden LEAF Foundation President), followed with comments during the ceremony.

The College recognized the critical need for Mechatronics technicians, specifically trained in the control and repair of robots, as expressed by the local industry (over 20 current vacant positions), Burke County Public Schools, and economic development authorities. LaBella assisted the College in applying for a Golden Leaf Grant, which led to the design of a new 7,000 SF facility that combines technology, electronics and mechanical engineering teachings all under one roof. The building will include an in-house robotic equipment, classrooms, and offices for the Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Division in support of the Mechatronics program.

This $1.6 million project is expected to take nine months to complete construction so that the building will be ready for the Fall 2017 semester.
