Albany Business Park Has an Array of Features
To assist Rosenblum Properties LLC in the implementation of solar arrays at their properties in the Capital region, LaBella Associates was commissioned by solar developer Aries Power to provide electrical and structural design services for 200kWdc rooftop solar arrays for three separate office blocks in the Great Oaks business park in Albany, NY.
Initially, engineers performed site visits to assess the integrity and capacity of the existing roof structures and the potential options for connection of the generation from the arrays to the electrical system within each building. LaBella worked closely with Aries and their installation contractor to finalize layouts and cost estimates for the construction before proceeding with detailed design.
Simultaneously, LaBella completed applications to National Grid for ‘behind the meter’ interconnection of the three arrays at each premises. Submission packages included site layouts for arrays and electrical rooms as well as schematic diagrams for the module configuration, inverters and switchgear additions/modifications.
Submission was made to the local municipality for building permits at which stage, LaBella completed the detailed engineering design including stringing arrangements, modifications to existing electrical switchgear, pathways to distribute the generated power through an operational building and staging plans for construction phase activities.
The solar array installations were completed and commissioned in 2018 and have been fully functional in contributing to the customer’s objective to transform energy consumption in their portfolio to renewable sources. Due to the success of the initial three arrays, Rosenblum intends to expand the DC capacity of the existing arrays to maximize the additional roof space available.
