ASTM E 1527-21 Has Been Published... Now What?
The new version of the ASTM E1527 Standard Practice for Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) has been published, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has determined the revised Standard satisfies the All Appropriate Inquiries portion of 40 CFR 312, and the public comment period is currently open.
With the revised Standard comes more than 12 additional pages that focus on clarifying language and terminology, providing guidance, refining methodology, etc. These revisions provide Environmental Professionals (EPs) with additional guidance, helping to standardize the Phase I ESA process, thereby, providing the User with a more complete and thorough understanding of the environmental risk associated with a property.
While most of the Standard updates were devoted to language clarifications and specifying the good commercial and customary practices used by consultants in meeting the Standard, LaBella has outlined significant changes that Users should be aware of as we adopt the ASTM E1527-21 Standard.
