Lee Silsby – New Compounding Pharmacy and Offices

Creating a Regional Compounding Pharmacy to Serve National Needs

The Lee Silsby Pharmacy is a family-owned-and-operated pharmacy that started out as a corner drug store more than 80 years ago, but eventually evolved to capture a market niche in compounding specialized drugs.

With business relationships across the United States and substantial growth in recent years, the pharmacy had outgrown their current building. LaBella was selected to design a new 20,000 sq. ft. facility for Lee Silsby, converting an existing office/bus garage building into a state-of-the-art facility in Beachwood, Ohio.

The completed facility features over 3,000 sq. ft. of USP 795/797/800-compliant compounding labs and more than 1,200 sq ft. of related support spaces, including glass wash and packaging areas. The remainder of the building houses a retail lobby, corporate offices, a customer service area, a shipping department, and staff support areas. The building also contains nearly 2,000 sq. ft. of shell space intended to support future growth for the compounding labs.

Design-Build Success for Lee Silsby Compounding Pharmacy

LaBella’s specialized knowledge of complex pharmaceutical regulations governing compounding facilities enabled our team to work closely with the Construction Manager in a design-build delivery method to meet Lee Silsby’s budget and schedule parameters.

The project was completed from design to construction in only 13 months. The final facility was dubbed the “Google of Compound Pharmacies” by the FDA inspector who certified the facility.

Working with the whole LaBella team was a pleasure. From the beginning, they heard and met the needs of our unique business. They have extensive knowledge of pharmacy design and worked with us to identify workflow challenges and develop solutions that allow our employees to work effectively and safely. Even better, the LaBella team is full of wonderful people who were easy to work with and extremely responsive to our needs and concerns. Rachael L. Israel, Esq.
