LaBella to Present on Planning for Energy Conservation and Sustainability at Upcoming Conference

February 8, 2016

Attending the 2016 Association of Towns conference in New York City?  Take note on your agenda: LaBella's Barb Johnston will be presenting on Monday, February 15th at 4 pm.

Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Strategies for Towns

Reducing energy use and increasing renewable energy generation can reduce costs, increase resiliency of utility infrastructure, encourage “green” economic development and respond to constituents’ priorities. Designed to give town officials a fundamental understanding of energy planning, this course will:

  • explain the terminology and methods used to measure and monitor energy use by type (e.g., gasoline, diesel, electricity, natural gas, propane) and end use (e.g., buildings, vehicles, outdoor lighting);

  • describe practical approaches to reduce energy use and costs and to encourage additional renewable energy generation, both in municipal functions and throughout the town; and

  • identify organizations and funding sources that can help town governments plan and implement energy conservation and renewable energy strategies.

Case studies will demonstrate how several upstate municipalities have documented energy use, both in municipal operations and communitywide, and developed achievable strategies for energy reduction and sustainability.

Speaker:              Barbara Johnston, AICP, LEED AP ND, Senior Planner
