The American Public Works Association has selected Wayne County's Macedon Center Road Bridge as the structures project of the year, in the under $5 million category!
LaBella Associates was retained by the Wayne County Highway Department to design the replacement of the Macedon Center Road Bridge over Red Creek. As part of the $295,000 replacement project, LaBella designed the reconstruction of a 32-foot long timber superstructure bridge supported on sheet pile abutments.
With bridge funding difficult to obtain, Wayne County looked to construct the replacement of the Macedon Center Road Bridge in-house. During design, coordination between the LaBella and the County was required to reach a solution that was feasible for the County to construct with minimal subcontractor support. Finding a solution that minimized the need for concrete work like conventional abutments and concrete bridge decks was the priority.
Congratulations to all on a cost-effective and successful project!
