A groundbreaking ceremony was held on October 21, 2016 in Davidson, NC to mark the beginning of the new Fire Station #2 on Davidson-Concord Road. Mayor John Woods made opening remarks, and he was followed by Town Manager Jamie Justice and Fire Chief Bo Fitzgerald. The ceremony marked an important milestone for the new fire station that has been in the works for almost 12 years. Construction of the new facility will improve fire service to the eastern part of the Davidson-North Star Fire District's jurisdiction.
Commencing design in 2015, LaBella worked with the Town to design a two apparatus bay facility for a five person crew, which will include a kitchen, living area, bunk room for four with one private bedroom, bathrooms and showers, locker room, weight room, and decontamination room. The design will also allow for a future expansion of another 4 person crew, apparatus bay and community room.
Construction on this new 6,000 square foot, $2 million dollar facility will begin in early November, and is scheduled to be completed in June 2017.
