The City of Niagara Falls held an Open House on Tuesday, February 28th 2017 to outline master plan concepts for the Niagara Opportunity Area (www.niagaraopportunity.org). LaBella Associates is the lead consultant on the project. In partnership with the UB Regional Institute Regional Institute, Planning Division Director Ed Flynn and Senior Planner Eve Holberg led the Open House to unveil redevelopment concepts for the Buffalo Avenue industrial corridor - the historic heart of manufacturing in the city.
The draft master plan recommended the development, redevelopment and repurposing of property at sites throughout the corridor including the intersection of Hyde Park and Buffalo Avenue; the Adams Transformer Plant; Niagara Falls Boulevard; and the upper Niagara River waterfront. The vision for the project is to take the currently vacant and underutilized parcels and create places for people to live, work and play.
Next steps involve completing the master plan report and developing a strategic implementation and funding plan to advance redevelopment at the Strategic Sites.
