MCC Downtown Campus Featured in RBJ's Green Building Issue

April 21, 2017

In celebration of Earth Day (April 22nd), don't miss the Rochester Business Journal's Special Report on Green Building, featuring the Monroe Community College Downtown Campus project.  LaBella Project Manager Jerry DeRomanis and LaBella LEED Adminstrator Jessica Kruse spoke with the RBJ about the project's sustainable design features.  The new campus is located in the High Falls Eco-District in Downtown Rochester, which is also home to LaBella's headquarters, and construction is nearing completion.  The campus is on schedule to welcome students for the Fall 2017 semester.

While the adaptive reuse of existing buildings makes the project inherently sustainable, the demolition phase saw over 85% of construction waste and debris diverted from landfills through recycled resource avoidance.  Other impressive statistics include systems that use 40% less water than standard buildings, and HVAC systems that are 23% more efficient than standard systems.  Green roofs will cover 22,000 square feet of the roofing surfaces, planted with vegetation that doesn't require irrigation.
