Two LaBella Associates projects were selected to receive awards for excellence in Comprehensive Planning from the American Planning Association, Upstate New York Chapter.
Director of Planning Edward Flynn, AICP worked in conjunction with the City of Niagara Falls Department of Planning, Economic Development & Environmental Services as well as multiple sub consultants, to prepare both the Pre-Nomination and Nomination Phase Studies for an approximate 1880 acre area consisting of more than 2,000 parcels of land that stretches along Buffalo Avenue and the Niagara River in the City of Niagara Falls. The plan’s vision, developed through community input and captured in the concept plans, eloquently described how redevelopment of the strategic sites, as well as other community development benefits, were dependent on two key drivers: transportation access and waterfront proximity.
The plan helped establish recommendations that would ultimately leverage the improving economy and the State’s funding focus on assisting sustainable, transformative economic development projects that provide significant regional impacts.
Senior Planner Eve Holberg, AICP worked with the Village of Lakewood to develop an inventory of current conditions and a public consultation strategy to provide platforms for expressions of the hopes and dreams of the community. These led to a vision of a preferred future to form the basis for the goals and objectives guiding the coordinated and orderly future development of the village. The plan was adopted in January 2017. Since the plan’s completion the Village has gotten more than $200,000 in grant funding to implement its vision of the future.
Both Eve and Ed attended the Upstate Inspired annual conference to accept the awards in Ithaca, NY on October 4th, 2018.
