Highlighting LaBella’s Community Outreach Efforts Across New York During Engineers Week 2024

This year, Engineers Week 2024 was celebrated during the week of February 18-24. Our engineers used their expertise to inspire and teach the next generation of engineers. Throughout New York, we stepped out into the community to share our knowledge with aspiring engineers of all ages. Tuesday, February 20th

ASCE Mid-Hudson Engineers Week Dinner Banquet – Wappingers Falls, NY

Senior Civil Engineer Kyle Bardwell, PE, and Civil Engineer Jarrod Rizzi represented LaBella at the ASCE Mid-Hudson Engineers Week Dinner Banquet in the Village of Wappingers Falls.

Wednesday, February 21st

University at Buffalo School of Engineering and Applied Sciences Panel Discussion – Buffalo, NY

Senior Electrical Engineer and Regional Manager Michael Rogalski, PE, participated in a corporate panel discussion and networking event at the University at Buffalo School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Each panelist had the opportunity to tell the students about what their company does, what they look for when hiring, the opportunities available, and general advice/tips for beginning their careers.

Thursday, February 22nd

Dutchess Community College STEM Panel & Networking Event – Poughkeepsie, NY

Senior Civil Engineer Nick Vamvas, PE, took part in a STEM Panel and Job/Internship Networking Event at the Dutchess Community College where he discussed his academic and career experiences, in addition to providing advice to students interested in entering the field upon graduation. Other panelists included professionals from IBM, Gap, Inc., Nuvance Health, and Orange and Rockland County Utilities.

Thursday, February 22nd

Rochester Museum and Science Center Engineers Week Camp – Rochester, NY

A team of LaBella’s civil and transportation engineers headed over to the Rochester Museum and Science Center to meet with the museum’s Engineers Week campers. After a brief explanation about building techniques, the teams got to work constructing their own bridges using popsicle sticks, toothpicks, and marshmallows. The team included Director of Civil Engineering, Timothy Webber, PE; Civil Engineers Ben Schmidt, EIT, Justin Petsos, EIT, Erica Molnar, and Carla Valdez-Jemio; Bridge Engineer Deshawn Henry, EIT; Structural Engineer Walter Kaniecki, PE; and Project Coordinator Courtney Welcher.

Thursday, February 22nd

Buffalo Science Museum Engineers Week Event – Buffalo, NY

For the second consecutive year, LaBella sponsored the National Engineers Week event at the Buffalo Science Museum. This year’s theme was “Welcome to the Future!” LaBella’s team planned activities and demonstrations to explain “The Power of the Sun” and solar power to the children who visited the museum. A high-powered flashlight representative of the sun powered objects mounted with solar panels such as houses, wind turbines, and cars. We had a great day interacting with the community and teaching about alternative forms of energy. The team included Energy Engineer Aaron Schauger PE, CEM, CPHC; Data Intelligence Lead Rebecca Smith, GISP; Civil, Engineer Kathy Ammari, EIT; and External Communications Manager Andrea Sauers.
