Union Square Park Wins ASLA New York Upstate Chapter Design Award
In April 2025, LaBella and the City of Hornell were honored to accept a 2025 Merit Award in the General Design – Large Scale category from the New York Upstate Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) for the Union Square Park project.
The ASLA Professional Awards Program recognizes a full spectrum of innovative projects and contributions by individuals, firms, agencies, and academic institutions.

AN AWARD-WINNING PROJECT
City of Hornell Union Square Park Project Wins APWA NY Chapter Regional Project of the Year Award
In February 2024, LaBella and the City of Hornell were honored to accept a 2023 Project of the Year Award in the Structures (<$5 Million) category from the New York Western Branch of the American Public Works Association (APWA) for the City of Hornell Union Square Park project.
The APWA’s Public Works Project of the Year Award was established to promote excellence in the management, administration, and implementation of public works projects by recognizing the alliance between the managing agency, the consultant/architect/engineer, and the contractor who work together to complete public works projects.

Honoring Daniel Swift
The park is dedicated in memory of Daniel Swift, a police officer for the City of Hornell, who was killed in the line of duty 50 years ago on October 24, 1973.
On October 28, 2023, family members and city officials gathered for a ceremony to unvail a monument at the park in Daniel’s honor.

Hornell’s Union Square Park Now Open!
