Nottingham High School Renovation

Renovated Library Makes Lasting Impression on Students and Staff

The LaBella team is designing the renovation of Nottingham High School within the Syracuse City School District in Syracuse, NY. This high school has unique challenges due to its size. The structure itself is comprised of the original high school and a neighboring elementary school that were connected via an addition. Major renovation items include abatement, mechanical upgrades, and a complete reorganization of their main entry, administrative suite, broadcast studio, music rooms, cafeteria kitchen, and library.

Our team reimagined the antiquated library space as a part of this major reconstruction project at Nottingham High School. The District asked our team to consider a space that met evolving technology and demand with collegiate level design and experience. To our surprise, our team discovered the original library was on a second level of a former gymnasium space. As we looked above the 8-foot-high existing ceilings, we found ten additional feet of structure, as well as clerestory windows. The final design embraced the structure, incorporated the trusses, and helped create a space that met all the District’s expectations. The original outdated library space is now a focal point for students and staff.
