City of Rochester Brewery Line Trail

Trail Enhancements Provide Unique Viewing Experience at High Falls

Located in the Upper Falls district of Rochester, New York, near the historic Genesee Brewery, this ROC the Riverway initiative was developed to enhance the scenic viewing experience of High Falls and the Genesee River. The scope of the project included concept design and planning through construction and specifications for a 1,200-linear-foot concrete and asphalt trail on the Genesee Riverway Trail and arboretum.

The trail spans from Pont de Rennes Bridge to the High Falls Overlook along the High Falls Terrace Park. Near the entrance of the High Falls Overlook, a musical play feature was added to enhance the user experience. Other design elements include connections to and through the neighboring High Falls Terrace Park, a new pedestrian-scale light pole system, bike racks, seating, drainage and rain garden improvements, steep bank stabilization, and landscaping. Planting plans were prepared that allowed for a substantial addition to the Genesee Riverway Arboretum, with the selection of 25 new tree species added to the existing tree inventory.

In addition to the landscape design for the project, LaBella was responsible for the preparation of the project graphics. These graphics included plan renderings and photo simulations. Below, you can view the photo simulations created based on the initial design (left) and the final project photography (right).
