Southport Correctional Facility Renovations

Facility Renovations Focused on Supporting Inmate Treatment and Rehabilitation

The Residential Rehabilitation Unit (RRU) program, of which this project at the Southport Correctional Facility is a part of, is designed to provide a higher level of individually tailored programming geared towards the treatment and rehabilitation of inmates rather than punishment.

To facilitate this program, this project consists of several key components and facility-wide renovations to Buildings 5 and 6, including:

  • Provide 5 classrooms per floor (first, second, and third floors) with the capacity for 42 inmates per floor in the B Block of Building 5 and the A Block of Building 6.
  • Provide an approximately 8,000 sq. ft. office building addition for 48 Offender Rehabilitation Coordinators.
  • Provide recreation pens for Buildings 5 and 6, which includes 148 single pens and 20 congregate recreation pens.
  • Provide CCTV / microphone coverage at the interior of Buildings 5 and 6, as well as exterior recreation pens.
  • Provide temporary vehicle compound through the existing secure perimeter fence system for construction vehicles.
  • Provide contractor / employee parking and a new temporary road to the vehicle compound.
