Union Square Park and Stever’s Candies Projects Win 2025 ASLA New York Upstate Chapter Design Awards
Two transformative projects led by LaBella’s landscape architecture team were honored at the 2025 Design Awards ceremony hosted by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) New York Upstate Chapter on April 25th. The awards program recognizes a full spectrum of innovative projects and contributions by individuals, firms, agencies, and academic institutions.
Union Square Park in the City of Hornell, New York, earned a Merit Award in General Design – Large Scale and the Stever’s Candies Outdoor Renovation project in Rochester, New York’s Park Avenue neighborhood received a Merit Award in Historic Preservation.

Merit Award in General Design – Large Scale
City of Hornell – Union Square Park
Union Square Park in the City of Hornell, New York, earned a Merit Award in General Design – Large Scale for its revitalization of a vacant site into a vibrant public park that both celebrates community life and honors local history. The reimagined site features gathering spaces, a 1,000-square-foot stage, a water feature, and a memorial to Officer Daniel Swift, who died in the line of duty 50 years ago. The park now stands as a centerpiece of downtown Hornell’s revitalization.

Stever’s Candies Outdoor Renovation
The Stever’s Candies Outdoor Renovation project in Rochester, New York’s Park Avenue neighborhood received a Merit Award in Historic Preservation. This beloved local business, operating since 1946, partnered with LaBella to enhance the shop’s exterior with new signage, natural stone patios, seating areas, and historically sensitive design elements. The project successfully balanced modern accessibility with respect for the store’s classic charm, creating an inviting outdoor experience for both customers and the surrounding neighborhood.
