New Surveying Leadership Announced on Global Surveyors’ Day
March 21st marks Global Surveyors’ Day. What better way to celebrate than to announce LaBella’s new Vice President of Land Surveying, David H. Dippel, PLS.
Dave is a Professional Land Surveyor licensed in New York and a member of the New York State Association of Professional Land Surveyors and the Mid-Hudson Valley Land Surveyors Association. Prior to becoming Vice President of Land Surveying, he served as Survey Manager in LaBella’s Poughkeepsie, NY office.
With over 30 years of experience, Dave has worked on projects for utility transmission, subdivisions, bridge rehabilitation, and railroads. He is skilled in boundary surveys, topographic surveys, right-of-way surveys, ALTA surveys, horizontal/vertical control surveys for aerial mapping, construction layout, site applications, and National Flood Insurance Program FEMA Elevation Certificate and LOMA surveys. Some of Dave’s most recent work includes renewable energy, land development, and state agency projects.
As Vice President of Land Surveying, Dave manages a talented team of 35 survey professionals across six offices, including Rochester, Albany, and Poughkeepsie, NY; Scranton, PA; Chattanooga, TN; and Rock Hill, SC. He is responsible for management of survey services, coordination of survey personnel, quality assurance, and overall program direction.
Established in 2018 to recognize the role of surveyors, Global Surveyors’ Day falls within National Surveyors Week, a celebration of the surveying profession held annually in March. It is a time to raise awareness of the profession, particularly with younger generations as the existing workforce sees a decline. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “about 3,500 openings for surveyors are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.” Dave, whose first surveying experience was with his father at age 10, is a fitting example of the success that can result from early exposure to a career in surveying.
