Vassar Brothers Medical Center New Inpatient Pavilion

New Inpatient Pavilion Expands Medical Center's Capabilities

Vassar Brothers Medical Center (VBMC) recently completed construction on a new, eight-story inpatient pavilion in the southwest corner of the VBMC campus in Poughkeepsie, New York. The new building addition, which totals 752,899 gross sq. ft. and bridges Livingston Street, features 294 private patient rooms, a new emergency department, a loading dock, a central plant expansion, an interventional suite, a conference center, a café, a helipad, and a new hospital inpatient lobby.

VBMC received Conditional Site Plan and Special Permit Approval on May 24, 2016, from the City of Poughkeepsie Planning Board for an expansion and revitalization of the hospital for the purpose of upgrading the existing facility to current standards of care to advance the patients’ clinical experience, attract top level medical staff, transform the patient and family experience, and increase the facility’s asset to the community.

Working with the prime consultant, LaBella provided civil/site design and permitting services for the proposed expansion, including survey, geotechnical investigation, traffic impact and parking studies, and SEQRA services.
LaBella managed the permitting process (including the amended site plan approval), including permits from the City of Poughkeepsie Planning Board, Waterfront Advisory Committee, City Council, and SEQRA, as well as obtaining approvals from the Dutchess County Department of Health and New York State Department of Transportation.

Our team prepared the site development plans, rerouting design of the City of Poughkeepsie’s sanitary sewer service that traverses the campus; intricate on-site water and sewer designs; a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan; retaining walls; and construction documents for the now-build improvements. We also reviewed shop drawings and responded to Requests For Information (RFIs) related to the work throughout the construction process. Additionally, LaBella was asked by Nuvance to assist them in addressing outstanding punch list items from their General Contractor and Site Inspector.
