Port of Albany Offshore Wind Manufacturing Facility On-Site Safety Staffing

Upholding Construction Safety at the Nation’s First Offshore Wind Tower Manufacturing Facility

The Albany Port District Commission (APDC) manages the maritime operations and infrastructure of the publicly owned Ports of Albany and Rensselaer along the Hudson River in New York State. The APDC has made diversification of its operations a strategic initiative and focused this effort on the pursuit of alternative energy developers, specifically offshore wind. They are in the process of expanding their current footprint to support the construction of a state-of-the-art offshore wind tower fabrication facility. The project is part of New York State’s Green Energy Initiative.

LaBella’s Safety Services & Training Division is proud to support the initiative by providing on-site safety management for the project. Under an “Owner Representative Contract” with the Port of Albany, LaBella’s safety team has overseen the day-to-day safety culture and compliance initiatives for the project by working with all contractors on-site since early 2023. Duties include daily site safety staffing (20-30 hours per week), auditing safety plans and procedures, facilitating daily safety talks, and guiding contractors on safety work practices and procedures.

LaBella understands the importance of this first-of-its-kind project and is focused on helping ensure no employee injuries and 100% safety compliance by all contractors.
