U.S. Department of Energy On-Site Safety Staffing

Meeting Elevated Safety Expectations as a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plant Undergoes Expansion

The U.S. Department of Energy operates naval nuclear propulsion plants at a confidential location and the site has been undergoing expansion. Throughout 2021 and 2022, in support of Sano-Rubin Construction, LaBella provided on-site safety staffing for the construction of a four-story office/utility structure.

LaBella’s safety team worked directly with Sano-Rubin management and staff in the development of safety programs and their execution by all contractors throughout the project. Duties included on-site safety staffing (40 hours per week), safety plan review (fall protection, silica, air monitoring, rigging plans, etc.) and approvals, fire watch activities, toolbox talks, and weekly summary reports.

Safety oversight and requirements on U.S. Department of Energy/Department of Defense projects often exceed federal, state, and local construction safety requirements. Due to this elevated level of safety oversight and requirements, this project required all the experience and professionals that our LaBella team offers.
